the art of making dolls

Making hand knit soft toys
is a time consuming process.
It takes long hours to finish just one piece.

This is a behind the scenes look at
the bunnies and cats we have made
at our studio in Bolivia for Ooshki

We make each piece by hand using
the finest Bolivian alpaca.
Tiny needles are used in the process.

Then we fill them with fiber and join the pieces
to complete the toy.

Filling the toys {a short video}

The embroidery is all made by hand
with a contrasting color of alpaca

Crochet details: our signature cheeks, collar and beret.

finished toys ready for face embroidery

farmers' market

All good things must come to an end...
This weekend marks the end of the
farmers' market season in our area

On our recent visit to St. Michaels, Maryland
we explored their very popular farmers market.
It is a popular destination for locals, visitors and boaters.

Farmers offer fresh fruit and vegetables, cut flowers,
breads & yummy pastries, cheeses, orchids, eggs, honey...

Lego goodie bags

How does 10 years just fly by?
Someone's turning 10 around here and having a Lego party

For the occasion I made some Lego figurine goodie bags.
Very easy to make.

I used organic cotton fabric for the little bags, and printed the figurines on heat transfer paper.

cut each figurine leaving a small edge around it

used a very hot iron to transfer the figurine to the fabric

peel the transfer when cool to the touch

finish the bag with the overlock and sewing machines

baker's twine

a finishing touch

he loves them and can't wait for the party this Saturday!!!

Bolivian awayus {aguayos} and frazadas

Very hard not to fall in love with the
beautiful colors of the
Bolivian "awayus" and frazadas.

These are some of the colorful "awayus" I took home with me
{awayus are used by Andean women to carry things on their back. They also carry their babies with these lovely pieces of cloth}

hard to decide which ones to buy

{frazadas are handwoven by Aymara women in the Andean region. They are used to protect against the  high altitude cold. They make wonderful blankets, rugs, throws}
