books & authors of Capitol Hill {with kids in mind}

Last Sunday we attended the Literary Hill BookFest, featuring dozens of local authors discussing and signing their books. There were also talks by well-known writers, a children's story-time corner, and book sales.

The BookFest is inspired by the monthly column in the Hill Rag, The Literary Hill, written by Hill resident Karen Lyon.

One of my kid's favorite is Katy Kelly. She has written six books for children, including Lucy Rose: Here’s the Thing About Me, Lucy Rose: Big On Plans, Lucy Rose: Busy Like You Can’t Believe, Lucy Rose: Working Myself to Pieces & Bits, Melonhead, and Melonhead and the Big Stink. Katy’s books are set on Capitol Hill.

  2. Oh I love book sales! I'm sure your kids had a blast meeting their fave author? And getting her autograph! That's a memory that will stay with her forever.. I also love reading books whose settings are my home town.. Like Kathy Reichs.. Definitely not kid material but I get a kick out of reading about spots I know! Looks like you all had a terrific time! Did you get any books for yourself?
